Let’s make a sweet treat to celebrate the 4th of July!

Everything glows with the red, white and blue when it’s the 4th of July!  Your backyard barbecue, park picnic & family gatherings are going to be festive and sweeter with these red, white and blue, homemade, delectable treats.  Our wonderful Coach Carol has combined her take on a one-bowl brownie recipe from Hershey’s Kitchens with inspiration from a pin on Pinterest from Real Food by Dad to create these yummy holiday brownies.  Ok, let’s bake!

Ingredients and Cooking Utensils:

  • Measuring cup & teaspoon
  • Whisk and spatula or mixing spoon
  • A medium sized mixing bowl
  • Cupcake tin & cupcake liners
  • ⅔ cup all purpose flour
  • ½ cup cocoa
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ cup (1 stick) butter, melted
  • 1 ¼ cups sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • Whipped cream
  • Strawberries & Blueberries

Before you start mixing your ingredients, preheat your oven to 350° and line your cupcake tin with cupcake liners, and set this aside for later.

STEP 1:

Put the sugar and the eggs in your mixing bowl and stir them with your mixing spoon or spatula until they are well combined.  Try to get them as light and fluffy as you can.

STEP 2:

Once they are blended together, slowly add your melted butter to the bowl and mix until well incorporated. Then add the vanilla extract and mix well

STEP 3:

Now, add the flour, salt, baking powder and cocoa to your bowl of wet ingredients and mix everything together slowly & thoroughly until you have a smooth, chocolatey batter.

STEP 4:

Get your prepared cupcake tin with liners and fill each cup about halfway with your batter.

STEP 5:

Place your filled cupcake tin in your preheated oven and bake for 35-45 minutes, depending on how your oven cooks and also how you like your brownies.  You can check if they are cooked through by inserting a toothpick into the center of the brownie. If the toothpick comes out clean, meaning without any batter on it, then the brownies are done. Remove them from the tin and let them cool.

STEP 6:

Gather the remaining ingredients for decorating your brownies – your strawberries, blueberries & whipped cream. Cut your strawberries into bite-sized pieces.  Now, top your cooled brownies first with whipped cream and then with blueberries and strawberries. How you decorate is totally up to you.

And Voila! You are done!  Look at the amazing, delicious, spirited Red, White & Blue Brownies you have created!
